Spring Fabrics….

30 01 2011

The weather has been so lovely this weekend and I couldn’t help but start daydreaming about spring clothing. While looking for some fabric choices for the Spring Palette Challenge I found some sweet fabrics I wanted to share. I spent hours on Purl Soho’s site just dreaming about all the things I could make with their selections of fabrics, ribbons, patterns, felt bundles (which make me go weak in the knees) and so much more. This site diffidently  makes me want to run out and learn how to knit this minute. Their knitting selection is amazing and I love their patterns, especially this one! Here is just a taste of their amazing fabric:

Remember before you shop online try to buy from a local business.  Two of our favorite fabric shops are Mulberry Silks (they have all designers Purl has) and Thimble Pleasures (wonderful cottons).

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Spring Inspirations…

28 01 2011

January is just coming to an end and signs of spring have been popping up everywhere, especially in the fashion world. When the weather gets near fifty thoughts of spring fill my mind. Earlier this month I talked about some fun sewing challenges in the blog world, but there is one that has me hooked. Colette Patterns is having a Spring Palette Challenge. I have been so excited about this challenge and have been looking at some amazing spring pieces for inspiration. I decided to put together my own spring palette inspired from these runway pieces found on Elle.

I am so in love with the spring 2011 collections here are a few of my favorites:  Fendi (photos 1-4) the colors are awesome!  Junya Watanabe (5-6) I love the name and always love navy and cream, chevron stripes and sheer fabric.  D&G (7) is so much fun. I love the use of gingham especially the large checks!  And Rebecca Taylor (8-9) just makes me melt. I love her palette and romantic pieces. The color samples are form Rit. A the cool thing about Rit Dye is you can mix them to make the exact shade you are dreaming of.

Stay tuned next week when I pull together a couple of patterns or ideas of what I am going to make for the Spring Palette Challenge.  What are some of your spring inspirations?

Have a wonderful Friday!

Love, Rebecca

Love is in the Air…

21 01 2011

Happy Friday! I love Friday so much ever since I was a little kid. I wanted to share some of my favorite things today…

This would make a wonderful gift, “I LOVE YOU BEST” antique tablespoon from Hammerman on Etsy.

I am totally  in love with Drucilla’s blog and her Etsy shop Drucillapettibone. I love her hand embroidered animal prints and her butterfly wing pendant.

These superhero shoes from Smallfly would be perfect with the superhero cape I’m making Jett for Valentine’s Day:)

This fox necklace from Odette New York is so sweet.

Vintage Valentines (come see some amazing ones at our store).

Crocheted hearts by Kara.

Handmade Valentine’s Cards. Of course Martha Stewart has a million ideas.

Francois the Accordion Playing Cat would make any sofa more comfy.

What are some things you are loving this week?

Have a wonderful weekend. And remember national pie day is Sunday!

Time To Dust Off Your Sewing Machine…

20 01 2011

Right now there are some many fun sew a-longs happening in the blog world. Two of my favorites are Casey’s from Elegant Musings and Peter’s from Male Pattern Boldness.

Casey from Elegant Musings, has a wonderful blog, and is having a dress sew-along making a 1940’s swing dress. She’ll be using the 1940’s Swing Dress Pattern from Sense and Sensibility Patterns.

Peter over at Male Pattern Boldness has a great Men’s Shirt Sew A-Long starting Feb.1. He’ll be using Colette’s new retro  men’s  Neogroni shirt pattern.

Well if you want to start your own sew a-long or if you are ready to add some new pieces to your wardrobe, Roulette Vintage’s sewing patterns are for you:) We have lots of different types: for children, men and women. And this is just the start, we have so many more to list!  So keep your eye out for more to come!  Here are just a few favorites…

Mention “I Love Roulette” and get free shipping on patterns for the month of January 2011.

Have a wonderful and crafty week.

Some fun blogs…

12 01 2011

The start of a new year always fills the blog world with great challenges. I have totally been following Veronica Darling, a super fun blog from Australia. She loves sewing and creating things. She deals mostly with vintage patterns and thrifted material. When I first found her blog she was making 100 outfits in one year!

Super cute blogger, Veronica Darling

Well her blog just led me to another fun blog where she will be contributing. The blog Sew Weekly challenges people to make weekly creations. The author, Mena explains, “The Sew Weekly documents my attempts to sew all my own clothes. In 2011, a large mission of the site is to get more folks involved in sewing and provide a community to share the results.” Ever since I have found this blog I have had some much fun going thru her archives. Last year she challenged herself to make a dress a week (sometimes she made skirt and shirt or pants and shirt). Check out her complete wardrobe from 2010, it is amazing!

One of my favorite dresses!

Now Sew Weekly has a great theme for this week, I Should Coco. Inspired by Coco Channel. She has so much great information about Coco Channel and I am totally in love with her creation for this week.

What do you guys think of Sew Weekly and Veronica Darling? What are some of your favorite blogs?

PS Check out my blog post about Wee Wonderfuls on my personal blog and have a great day!

Buckle me up!

14 08 2007

Roulette has just gotten another wonderful local designer! Buncombe buckles are made from recycled steel and each one has a slight variation. Celia Gray is the designer and we feel very lucky to have found her.  I especially love the ones made of tin and steel, an example is the rose one on the top left. Kara and I have been eyeing the buckles up and cannot wait to wear them. They will be perfect with jeans or the perfect dress.
